On 11 June 2009, the Government published its proposals for a set of specific duties to support better performance by public bodies of the new Equality Duty included in the Equality Bill. Consultation closed on 30 September 2009. The Institute submitted a response on behalf of its members.

The Government Equalities Office has published a document called "Equality Bill: Making it work; Policy proposals for specific duties". This sets out the Government’s policy statement on the specific duties, in the light of the issues raised in consultation.
